How has your skiing changed with the ALLTIME?
I used to carry two sets of skis when out sledding: one with alpine bindings and one with touring bindings. Now I only carry my AllTime set-up and am confident in their performance. No more second guessing my gear allows me to get into those steep, committing lines with confidence; for me that is huge.
Best Run on Your MFD ALLTIMEs:
My first run on them consisted of a steep technical skin through trees, where I found a new confidence in the pitch I could climb with a stable touring set-up. 1500 ft of climbing later I was at the top with energy to spare, something I was not accustomed to with my previous touring set-ups. It was obviously all downhill from there; 40 degrees of waist deep with pillows everywhere. If I wasn’t in the air launching off a pillow, I was burrowing through the snow. I stopped at the bottom laughing and choking on snow; very stoked on the new set up.
Best known for (on-hill):
Stealth ninja moves through lift lines on chaotic pow days.
Best known for (off-hill):
Sniffing out sled routes to access big mountain lines.
Favorite Backcountry Run:
Ha ha, nice try. Blackcomb has a bunch of close, short slack-country lines that are fun and good to train on; and the Duffy Lake road has sick big lines that can be bagged in a day trip. Most of my skiing happens off my sled where we can get deeper then the crowded idiots with ‘John Baldwin’ maps. The sleds get us to the top of a lot of good lines, and where the sleds stop, the MFDs take over.

Do you compete? If so, best finishes:
1st & 3rd Fernie Big Mountain Challenge – 2003, 2005
2nd Wrangle the Chute – 2011
Best trick in the bag: Back Flip
Goals for 2012 Ski Season:
Bag more big lines deeper in the coast range. Some of the zones we have on our radar require multi-day expeditions with gas drops by ski planes.
Favorite Shred Friends:
The Pemberton Big Mountain Hunting Club, and the Blackcomb rippers – too many to name. And of course my family.
Favorite Film Released in 2011:
All I Can!!!! The Sherpas are so talented, and created the best ski movie I’ve seen in ages. So good to see something different from the usual ‘ski porn’ that is typical of ski films. Also rad to see a bunch of my good friends ripping in it.
Top 5 Songs to Skin Up a Mountain:
Comatose – Timmy Curran
Five Man Army – Massive Attack
Dust Bowl Dance – Mumford and Sons
Light a Candle – Neil Young
Creeping Death – Mettalica (for when I’m feeling bagged and need motivation)
Soundtrack to Shred Down a Mountain:
Listening to my skis, my breathing, the slough on my heals, and hoping not to hear any avalanche warning signs.
If you weren’t a skier, what would you be?
A rich surfer with my ACLs still intact.
Anything else we should know about you?
I feel super blessed to live in a beautiful and peaceful part of the world where I have the luxury of exploring the mountains with amazing people.
